Michael D. Crain announces for Fort Worth City Council
Fort Worth native Michael D. Crain announced today his candidacy for Fort Worth’s District 3 City Council seat. Incumbent Councilman Brian Byrd has announced his intention to run for mayor and will not be seeking re-election. District 3 is located in southwest Fort Worth and stretches from the TCU campus south to Mira Vista and as far west as Walsh.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of District 3 in an elected capacity,” Crain said. “The city council has a vital role to play in being a good steward of taxpayer dollars, improving public safety and continuing to make Fort Worth a great place to live and work.”
Crain is a partner of Northern Crain Realty, former Chief of Staff at the United States Embassy in Beijing under President George W. Bush and former international trade consultant. He has served at local, state and federal levels of government including roles with former Fort Worth Mayor Kenneth Barr, Congressman Pete Geren and Congresswoman Kay Granger. For the last 4 years, Crain has served as the District 3 Director for Councilman Byrd.
Crain is also actively involved in the community serving on the boards of Fort Worth Sister Cities International, LVT Rise, The Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival, The Greatest Gift Catalog Ever and The Texas Lyceum. Michael and his wife Joanna founded Foodie Philanthropy, which partners with area restaurants to raise funds supporting local non-profits.
In addition, he has been regularly named to the Fort Worth 400 list by Fort Worth Magazine, and has been awarded Philanthropist of the Year by the Fort Worth Business Press and Fort Worth Magazine’s 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year.
Crain holds a JD and BBA from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Rutgers University. Michael and Joanna, who works for IDEA Public Schools, live in the Tanglewood area. They have twin twelve-year-olds, Mackaylee & Mackenzie, who attend Trinity Valley School and five-year-old, Ainsley, who attends Overton Park Elementary. They are members of 7 City Church on West Lancaster.
